RESPONDING to the criticism about Uganda Cranes playing their friendlies in Morocco when some people think they should be in East Africa!
The venue issue is practical, not preference All the designated AFCON 2027 venues in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania are currently closed for renovation/upgrades ahead of the tournament. It’s a no brainer.
That means there is no CAF-approved stadium available for international friendlies right now.
Playing in Morocco gives the team a neutral, CAF/FIFA-standard venue with proper facilities and opponents at the right level.
The friendlies are a two way not one way traffic. All 4 teams/ federations involved must accept. Morocco has world-class training facilities, good weather and is used to hosting African national teams for camps.
For Coach Paul Put and the technical team, the priority is assessing the squad and building competitiveness, not location optics. You can’t do that properly on a half-finished or unapproved pitch.
