JUSTICE FORUM Party headquarters in Mengo, Rubaga division, Kampala Capital City is reportedly besieged by security operatives after getting intelligence that Dr. Kizza Besigye, the leader of a political pressure group, People’s Front for Transtion (PTF) was planing to use this venue as a command centre to disorganise today’s Heroes’ day celebrations!
Authorities at JEEMA party have denied knowledge about the said plot.
They want police and other security officers who since today morning put their party headquarters under siege to immediately leave saying as a party, they have a right to utilize their offices in executing the day to day work of the party without any beleaguerment.
Citing Article 69 (1) of the 1995 Constitution, Mr. Frederick Deric Namakajo the Secretary Legal Affairs, JEEMA Party has said, ” Ugandans adopted the multi-party system as their choice and as such, under Article 72 and Section 3, 4 & 6 of the Political Party and Organizations Act 2005, the Justice Forum (JEEMA) was registered with the Electoral Commission in 2005 as a Political Party and its registered offices located at JEEMA. These offices are never police barracks neither station.”
This news website has learnt that, today morning on the 9th day of June 2022 being a Heroes day, military operatives besieged JEEMA Party headquarters causing fear and intimidation not only to party officials, members but to the residents living within Mengo.
Mr. Namakajo says, all this is done with no explanation given by the said officers.
“This act indeed has left thoughts in our minds not limited to whether it is US who have held the Heroes’ day celebrations or we are to be awarded Heroes medals for such deployment.” Reads Namakajo’s letter to security officials.
This is the second time within a period of less than a month, JEEMA headquarter is besieged. The first time was on May 12, 2022 a day Dr. Kizza Besigye was put under house arrest after he was intercepted by security operatives following his attempt to mobilise Ugandans to raise up against the skyrocketing basic commodity prices which the Front believes that was and is affecting common citizens.
The same military operatives, that same day, beleaguered, besieged and encircled the JEEMA Party headquarters to a stand still the party work for a full day, psychologically torturing JEEMA staff and the surrounding community, according to Mr. Namakajo.
In his letter addressed to security officers, Namakajo has reminded them of President Calvin Coolidge who once said, ‘No one is compelled to choose the profession of a police officer, but having chosen it, every one is obliged to live up to the standard of its requirements.
“A commitment to the vocation of law enforcement is a commitment of justice. We are talking about JUSTICE which is an acronym of JEEMA. To those of you who have answered the call to become police professionals, the letters making up the word JUSTICE represent a commitment that is central to who you are, how you act and what you represent. So are you representing those letters or orders from someone?” Asked JEEMA’s Secretary for Legal Affairs, urging government through the enforcement agencies to take this as a serious issue and to know that JEEMA condemns such acts as they deem them to be the acts of a dictator and a fearing government living in guilt.
