KING’S College, Budo (KCB) has proudly marked its debut at the 2025 International Young Mathematicians Convention (IYMC) in India with an impressive collection of medals and team trophies, affirming the school’s rising prominence in global mathematics competitions. Congratulations, KCB and Salutations to Headteacher, Canon John Fred Kazibwe!

The biennial event, hosted by City Montessori School (CMS) in Lucknow, India, ran from 3rd to 6th November 2025 and attracted participants from across Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia, with the majority coming from India.

King’s College Budo fielded 17 students, accompanied by five mathematics department teachers, namely; Mrs. Nabunya Margaret Kabuye, Mr. Lubega James, Mr. Walusimbi John, Mrs. Nakiranda Grace Muwanguzi, and delegation leader Mrs. Assumpta Kasamba. Despite being first-time participants, the students delivered exceptional performances in both individual and team contests.

Several secured silver and bronze medals, including:

Otile Jensen (Junior) – Silver

Atamba Jayden (Junior) – Silver

Kizito Cleophas (Junior) – Silver

Kasiima Joshua (Senior) – Bronze

Kasirye Sira Nsibirwa (Junior) – Bronze

Namakula Skyler (Junior) – Bronze

Competing under the official national team name, Team Nebula (Uganda), KCB students also secured multiple team accolades:

• First Runner-Up – Mathmania (Team contest)

• Second Runner-Up – Mathmania (Team contest) — twice

• Second Runner-Up – Crack the Code (Puzzle contest)

• Second Runner-Up – Junior Category (Overall)

• “The Beloved Bunch” – Most Popular Team Award

In addition, Team Nebula emerged champions of the inter-cultural performance competition, showcasing Uganda’s vibrant artistic heritage and earning a trophy for Best Cultural Presentation.

Mr. Lubega James, Head of the Mathematics Department, extended gratitude to the Headteacher, Canon John Fred Kazibwe (JFK), whose unwavering support has enabled students to access international platforms that enhance both their academic and future university prospects.

Certificates earned at IYMC are expected to strengthen students’ applications for further studies abroad.
