MAKINDYE EAST NUP Member of Parliament Derrick Nyeko will not contest for second term, apologies to party bosses and his voters in a shocking declaration made by the legislator, a few hours ago!

Nyeko who was the most favourite for the seat with all indicators showing that the former NRM youngster will win the party ticket, release a statement on his X Page, leaving party bosses and his voters in shock!

Hon. Nyeko has served only one term and was vying for a second term as Makindye East MP.

He picked forms from a party where he serves as Security Munister and because of his closeness to the powers that be in NUP, Nyeko’s ticket was a sure deal. Sad that he has decided not to contest again!

HON. NYEKO’S FULL STATEMENT

I wish to extend my deepest gratitude to all who have believed in me throughout the years I have been entrusted with leadership. It is with a heart full of joy that I have served you with honour, respect, and a deep commitment never to betray the trust of your vote.

I know this decision may not be easy for my team and supporters to receive, especially after our strong belief that we would once again win the Makindye East MP seat. However, after deep reflection, I have made the difficult decision not to offer myself for election in the coming polls.

This choice does not diminish the journey we have walked together, nor the victories we have achieved. It is my hope that the spirit of unity, resilience, and service to our people will remain stronger than ever.I remain the man of no corruption, no problems.

With humility and gratitude,Hon. Nyeko Derrick

SEE HOW PUBLIC HAVE REACTED

• Mujuzi Mike: This isn’t just a statement, it’s a profound lesson. Thank you, Hon. Nyeko, for the lesson and good service.

• Ssemanda Tonny: This should send a louder message to all current and future politicians that there is life after serving, they should serve and then rest to give other people a chance to express themselves other than thinking that if not them then no one.

• Okot George: It’s good to retire with honour than defeat… Coming elections will pile shame and financial ruin to many candidates. Good decision

• Sure Wins Emp: I didn’t see this coming from Hon. Nyeko Derrick!!! Is everything OK Brother?

• I didn’t see this coming from Hon. Nyeko Derrick!!! Is everything OK Brother.

• Cfc: You said you can summon the CDF any time you want, do it now.

• Mugume John Paul: A ‘Nyeko’ to serve in Buganda, thus being on Buganda parliamentary caucus was such a mistake!

• Sim Sim; There is something fishy about your resignation, in your statement no single word about your party. I smell something about your statement.• Esaete Patricia: I knew this would happen but thanks Derrick for stepping down and letting your opponents also enjoy and it should be lesson for every politician there’s life after politics copy from Nelson Mandela we were not there during his regime but up to now generations study him.

• Wasige Akim: Hon. Nyeko Derrick, thank you for your selfless leadership and integrity. Your legacy of “no corruption, no problems” will continue to inspire. You served with honour — your impact will remain. Wishing you strength and success in your next chapter.

WHY NYEKO WILL NOT CONTEST AGAIN!

Insiders say, although Nyeko had higher chance to win the Party ticket, the ground wasn’t in his favour. A few months ago, Nyeko was humiliated by NUP supporters who accused him of remembering them during election time. They vowed not to return him however much the party gives him the ticket. On sensing that he is likely to lose the election, he chose to withdraw.

Secondly, Makindye East voters rarely give their MPs a second term. Hon. John Simbwa and Ibrahim Kasozi, served for one term. Nyeko wasn’t exceptional.

Lastly, there is an ongoing power struggle in NUP, most of Bobi Wine’s loyalists are being fought. Top on the list is Nyeko, Nyanzi and Hon. Zaake. There is a clique plotting to humiliate Bobi’s loyal MPs. In fact, that is how Zaake was fought from Party youth leadership. Nyeko a renown Bornagain, might have withdrawn to escape for dear life.
