UGANDA Premier League (UPL) Sponsors, StarTimes has released an official statement on their position of bankrolling the new league giving a greenlight to Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA), leaving defiant Lawrence Mulindwa, owner of Sports Club Vipers, isolated!

On orders of the clubs owner, SC Vipers boycotted the league in rejection of the new format! However, Mulindwa looks to be lonely in own game!

The Uganda Premier League will expand to 18 teams for the 2026/27 season, up from 16, as part of FUFA’s reforms.

In a Statement dated October 10, 2025/26, Star DTV (U) Co. Ltd said, “Following the changes to the league format, StarTimes Uganda wishes to address the speculation regarding our position on the current status of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League 2025/26 season as follows;

1. StarTimes Uganda has an on going Title and Broadcast’ tripartite sponsorship agreement with Federation of Uganda Football Associations and Uganda Premier League. This sponsorship agreement is not tied to a specific format.

2. StarTimes Uganda does not administer the league and therefore has nothing to do with it’s reforms, regulation or management.

3. StarTimes Uganda has learnt of the new reforms that have been introduced for the 2025/26 season, which include introduction of a new league format.

4. StarTimes Uganda’s position on the new league format is that FUFA and UPL have the obligation to manage the change to the extent that it does not cause a negative image to the StarTimes UPL or cause dissent to the fans. We are convinced that the StarTimes UPL fans, clubs are our key stakeholders and their interests are important because they are our customers.

5. StarTimes Uganda will continue to broadcast live all the fixtures we have selected for the first round of the 2025/26 season. It’s our prerogative to select Ty fixtures after the UPL has released the season fixture calendar.

6. StarTimes Uganda supports any efforts that FUFA and UPL make to bring calm to the game, restore fans confidence and ensure a smooth running of the 2025/26 season. What next for Lawrence Mulindwa and his SC Vipers?
