A RENOWN, distinguished Ugandan legal professional, Human Rights advocate and community leader, Counsel Peter Kawuki’s life story reflects resilience, service, and an unwavering commitment to justice.

Born on November 28, 1986 to Mr. Ssettumba George William and Ms. Alice Mutesi Byogero, the recently elected NUP LCV Chairperson for Mpigi district, Kawuki, was raised in a humble beginning in Wandegeya–Katanga slums, where his early experiences shaped his deep empathy for the underprivileged.

A devoted Catholic, Married, husband, and a father of 7, Kawuki’s journey is grounded in strong Catholic family values and faith raised by his grandmother Nakatudde Francisco.
His educational path began in challenging environments of Buyiwa Primary School in Mpigi District. Through determination and support from Germany benefactors facilitated by Fr. David Kasole and the Lindiner family, Kawuki completed both his O and A Levels at St. Joseph’s Aid Society Secondary School Kigando in Kiboga District.

Driven by a passion for justice, Kawuki pursued a Diploma in Law at the Law Development Centre in Kampala in 2009. He later earned a Bachelor of Laws from Cavendish University Uganda in 2015, followed by a Diploma in Legal Practice.
His academic journey continued with a Master of Laws at Uganda Christian University (UCU) and ongoing studies of Masters Degree in Public Administration at Uganda Management Institute (UMI).
Kawuki’s professional credentials are equally impressive. He is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and an accredited court mediator in Uganda.

As a Global Peace Ambassador under Global Peace Chain, he has demonstrated his commitment to leadership and conflict resolution on an international stage.
A passionate advocate for justice and human rights defender, Kawuki is the founder of the African Fraternity for Justice, Peace and Development, an NGO dedicated to defending the oppressed, protecting land rights, promoting women and children’s welfare, and supporting victims of torture. His legal aid work, particularly through the Law Development Centre, has seen him champion the rights of vulnerable communities across Uganda.

He has stood boldly against injustice, notably confronting abuses during operations along Lake Victoria that led to loss of innocent lives, and defending squatters against forced evictions by powerful figures. To many marginalized communities, he is not just a leader but a steadfast protector and voice of hope, an incorruotible leader who serves beyond self!
More on that, Kawuki is a champion of youth empowerment and talent development. He is the founder and president of Buwama Football Club, using sports as a tool to inspire and uplift young people.

He is also an active Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Kampala-Wandegeya, contributing to humanitarian service and community development.
Politically, Kawuki’s journey has been marked by perseverance and growth.
After contesting for the Mawokota South parliamentary seat in 2011, he continued to serve with dedication, eventually aligning with the National Unity Platform led by Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.

His integrity and pro-people leadership earned him the trust of the leading opposition party in Uganda and the endorsement that propelled him to victory.
In 2026, Kawuki Peter was massively elected District Chairperson of Mpigi District, succeeding Ssejjemba Martin. His victory is widely seen as a triumph for grassroots leadership and a testament to his lifelong dedication to the people.

Today, Kawuki Peter stands as a symbol of hope, justice, and transformative leadership – an inspiring figure committed to building a fairer, more inclusive society for all.
A down to earth leader, Kawuki is known for hardwork, competence, transparency and a loyal subject to Kabaka. He serves people without discrimination and a darling to all.

Fecilitations Counsel Kawuki Peter, may you serve the people of Mpigi with one heart, always!
