THE National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer for the Bukedea Woman MP seat, Florence Asio, has refuted claims by her own Party bosses that she was kidnapped ahead of nominations.

In a video she recorded from her sitting room, a calm speaking Asio said, her not appearing on the nominations day has nothing to do with Speaker Anita Among as it was alleged by NUP Spokesperson who also doubles as Leader of Opposition (LOP), Joel Ssenyonyi Bisekezi.

Asio’s disappearance last week sparked widespread concern within NUP, which alleged that she had been abducted to block her from challenging Speaker Anita Among, who was later declared unopposed for the seat after no other aspirant presented herself before the electoral commission, for the seat.

However, Asio has since resurfaced and dismissed the kidnapping allegations, saying her absence was due to personal reasons.

“I am here to clear the air. It is not true that I was abducted. I decided to pull out of the race due to family pressure. My family didn’t support my move to contest against Speaker Anita Among who is my mother. So we agreed that I don’t contest. Therefore, no body should spread lies that I was abducted or blocked from contesting. Ignore such lies. I am very fine.” Says, Asio in a trending video.
