TODAY Sunday morning February 20, 2022, all roads going to St. Nicholas Cathedral Namungoona in Rubaga division, Kampala will be busy as hundreds of Othodox gather to witness the enthronement of His Eminence Metropolitan Jeronymos Muzeeyi of the Greek Othodox Church in Uganda.
This mega ceremony will be presided over by Patriarch representative His Eminence Metropolitan Makarios Tillyrides, the Archbishop of Nairobi, Kenya.
Rev. Fr. Archimandrite Constantine Mbonabingi, the vicar General is the chairman Organising Committee of this ceremony while, Lwemiyaga legislator Hon. Theodore Ssekikubo the chairman Development Commission, heads the protocol committee.
His Eminence Muzeeyi is taking over The Holly Metropolis of Kampala and all Uganda after the demise of outspoken Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga whose death last year shocked the country!
Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga who is remembered for being a true religious leader, bold and never minced words especially against torture and corruption in the country, passed away in Greece, Anthens on 5th September, 2021 and later, body returned and laid to rest at St. Nicholas Cathedral Namungoona.
Lwanga was talked about by Buganda Kingdom Premier Charles Peter Mayiga as, “A champion of human rights, the rule of law, development and unity of Ugandans. He left a legacy of an inspirational religious leader.”
Months later, Jeronymos Muzeeyi was elected as the best candidate, suitable to carry on the mantle of leading the Greek Othodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa Uganda Othodox Church as the Metropolitan of Kampala and all Uganda. His enthronement is today. He will be the spiritual leader of more than 500,000 Ugandans who are Greek Orthodox Christians.
According to Rev. Fr. Mbonabingi, “The ethronment program runs from 7:00am and at that time, there will be the Orthros (Martins) service. Guests are expected to arrive at 8:00am. At 9:00am, Holly liturgy starts. The chief guest is expected to arrive at 10:00am. Enthronement of Metropolitan Jeronymos Muzeeyi will be at 11:00am sharp.”
“Speeches will take one and a half hours from 11:30am to 1:00pm, then photos and lunch and entertainment start at 1:30am. Thereafter, departure at leisure.” Says Rev. Fr. Mbonabingi.
For starters, today’s enthronement function follows the concentration of Bishop Nektarios Kabuye, the Bishop of Gulu and all Northern Uganda, last Sunday February 13, 2022 at St Nicholas Cathedral in Cairo Egypt by His Beatitude Pope and Patriach of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodorous II.
The function was attended by Ambassador Nyeko Ocula, the Deputy Ambassador of Uganda to Egypt.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BISHOP NEKTARIOS KABUYE
His grace, Nektarios Kabuye, the Bishop of Gulu and all Northern Uganda, was born in 1982 and named Nicholas Kabuye in the central region of Uganda, Nkonkonjeru, then  Mukono District. He attended Magulu Day and Boarding Primary School Nkokonjeru, St. Peter’s Senior Secondary Nkokonjeru, St. Mary’s Orthodox Secondary School, Katente and Chwa II Memorial College, Namungoona. 

After the completion of his elementary studies in Uganda, he joined and graduated from the Rizarios Ecclesiastical School of Athens. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Theology of the University of Athens. 
Bishop Kabuye holds a Master’s degree with specialization in the Canon Laws from the University of Anthens. He also studied Business Administration at the City University of Seattle.
On 1st November 2013, he was tonsured a monk at St. Andreas Archdiocesan Chapel Filotheis, by His Beatitude the Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Jeronymos II giving him the name Nektarios and on his mandate, was stationed at the Holy monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary in Pendelis.
Kabuye was ordained deacon on 9th February 2014 at the then Cathedral of St. Dionisios the Aeropagitis and later ordained Presbyter (Priest) on 6th December 2015 at the church of St. Nicholas Axarnon by His Beatitude the Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Jeronymos II.
On the 17th October 2021, in Africa Uganda, His Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa Theodoros II bestowed upon him the office/rank of Archimandrite and on the 12th January 2022, upon the proposal by His Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa Theodoros II, the Holy Synod of the second throne of Alexandria, Kabuye was unanimously elected as the new Bishop of Gulu and all Northern Uganda.
