SINCE Monday this week when information on a plot leaked to relieve Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Francis Butebi Zaake of his duties as Commissioner of Parliament, the legislator made a number of attempts to reach Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among to apologie over an insulting tweet against the Deputy Speaker and beg for forgiveness, but all was in vain! It was not until he involved top officials of National Unity Platform (NUP) Party, leaders from ruling NRM Party, religious leaders and other political king makers, that Madam Speaker agreed to meet and receive Hon. Zaake’s apology.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) MP confessed before the Deputy Speaker that he is really embarrassed by his behaviour. He said it’s true, he didn’t manage his tempers well, “I accept full responsibility, I should have managed my emotions better”, MP Zaake told his boss Rt. Hon. Anita Among.
During a Parliamentary sitting presided over by Anita Among on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, a number of Members of Parliament wanted Zaake to be relieved of his duties as Commissioner Parliament of Uganda accusing him of misconduct and misbehaviour.
Zaake allegedly insulted the integrity of Parliament through social media in a post where he used offensive language against the Deputy Speaker in protest over what Anita told Parliament last week that the Mityana Municipality MP participated in athletics and won for Uganda Parliament a Gold medal during the East Africa Interparliamentary games in Tanzanisa last year, despite the fact that Zaake was tortured by security organs and got a fracture. Zaake took it as a mockery!
A section of MPs said their colleague went overboard, the language used in the post on his twitter page was beneath a member of parliament and sought his punishment by relieving him of the duties of Commissioner of Parliament.
Our sources at Parliament have just revealed to us that, when Hon. Zaake met his boss at Parliament and with his head bowed asked to be forgiven promising that never again will he run such a post on his social media page.
“Madam Speaker, I have come here in Peace! I have come to apologise for the embarrassment I caused you. I am very sorry madam Speaker, indeed the post tainted your image and the sanctity of Parliament. I pledge to do everything possible to clear the air. May I find forgiveness in you Rt. Hon.” A crestfallen Zaake apologised.
We are reliably informed, it is true, at first, a soft speaking Deputy speaker of Parliament who our sources say was so much offended by Hon. Zaake’s social media attack was so angry and did not even want to give him any audience.
“But because she is a loving mother who runs parliament with a loving and forgiving heart, Rt. Hon. Anita agreed to listen to MP Zaake.” Our sources at Parliament told this fastest growing news website.
Attempts to reach Hon. Zaake on phone for a comment, by press time were futile since he doesn’t answer or return our calls.
Political analysts say, although the tempers were high at Parliament as top religious leaders, Buganda Kingdom, opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) Party officials and the ruling NRM closely followed this matter, the ball was in the court of Deputy Speaker Anita Among who was offended.
If Deputy Spaker moves to forgive her MP by putting tough cautions, the rest will definitely be history.
We will keep you posted!
