JUST IN! Chairman Mao has been declared winner for the Democratic Party (DP) President General elections in Mbarara after defeating Buikwe South Member of Parliament Dr. Michael Lulume Bayiga in a landslide victory. Hon. Fred Mukasa Mbidde remains DP Vice President after he was declared unopposed.

In a delegates conference which convened in Mbarara to elect party leadership on NEC, Mao emerged winner and was declared by the Party electoral commission boss Kennedy Mutenyo.

His term will run up to 2030 making 15 years in the Party’s top office. According to the official declaration, Hon. Mao has won with 969 votes, Hon Dr. Lulume got 339 votes compared to 330 votes he got 10 years ago at Katomi, while Hon Alitia has recieved only 52 votes.

Another would be candidate Hon. Eng. Richard Ssebamala was disqualified after he failed to fulfil requirements and decided to make alliance with Lulume, which hasnt delivered.

Mao is going to serve his last term and assured Party members that he will not contest again after this term.

About how Mao managed to defeat his opponents, insiders say, he adopted the 3/4 crusade that pitted 3 regions against Buganda where Lulume and Ssebamala come from.

“They couldn’t pass this game plan, that is why they resorted to violence. The three other regions massively voted for Chairman Mao and he managed to get some votes from Buganda.” Said an insider from Camp Mao. In our next story, we will bring details of other winners on the DP National Executive Committee (NEC).
